Team Day at the London Packaging Week Event

Last Thursday our team took a trip to ExCeL London for the London Packaging Week event. Apart from taking a mini break from client work, these events are important to our studio as they allow our designers to stay engaged with packaging innovation and how to further apply these ideas/methods in client work.

Here’s what the team picked up from the speakers across the show..

Did any guest speakers change your mindset on how you design as a packaging designer?

Speakers Jenny Stanley and Steve Wardle gave a very eye-opening talk on the use of QR codes and Navilens as tools to make shopping more accessible for disabled people. It is amazing to see how new technology is being used to make packaging design more inclusive. However, it seems there is a need for further development and wider use of these tools.

Moving forward, this is an aspect of packaging design that I will heavily consider within my design process. It will be interesting to see how these innovations develop in the near future.

‘Regulating Innovation: Is packaging creativity being stifled?’

The government is invested in the practices of sustainability and recycled and reusable packaging, working closely with the Circular Economy Taskforce. Style vs. functionality will always be a challenge, but the UK is currently striving for ‘the best packaging for widest positive environmental benefits.’

What was your key takeaway from the event?

The London Packaging Week event was a great opportunity to discover more about innovation and inclusivity within the industry and how packaging needs to develop with sustainable practices at the forefront of this process.
